Songkran at Buddhapadipa Temple – A Thai New Year in London
Every year from April 13–15, Thai communities around the world celebrate Songkran — the Thai New Year — with water, blessings, and a fresh start. Rooted in tradition and astrology, it's a time for renewal, paying respect to elders, and washing away the old.
This year, I joined the Songkran Festival 2025 at Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon. The grounds were buzzing with music, traditional dance, Thai massages, and of course — amazing food. From coconut pancakes to bubble tea and spicy pork dishes, it was a full-on cultural feast.
We also got to take part in Buddhist rituals like ‘bathing’ the Buddha with scented water and building sand pagodas for merit. Such a beautiful mix of calm spirituality and joyful celebration.
